Teckels is a charitable animal welfare centre, which was established in 2003 as a merger between two long established animal rescue centres. We take in cats and dogs for rehoming from Gloucestershire and further a field.
As long as we have the room, we will always take in any cats or dogs looking for a home. We do not discriminate against old or sick animals and we have a non-destruction policy, hence we have animals that can end up staying for quite a long time whilst waiting for the right home.
In order to help fund the welfare side of the charity we have luxury boarding kennels and a beautiful cattery where all of our guests enjoy a comfortable stay with plenty of walks, food and cuddles! However this doesn’t cover all of our costs and we rely heavily on donations from the general public and our fund raising activities. Our vet’s bills average over £4,000 per month and it costs us £14,000 per month to run the centre overall!
Our rescue and boarding animals are cared for by our dedicated team of hard working staff and volunteers, who regularly clean out, feed, exercise and interact with those in our care.
However we deal with more than just cats and dogs here at Teckels!
Teckels animal sanctuaries work hard within the community by providing volunteer opportunities for a number of adults with special needs and learning difficulties. We work with local schools and colleges to offer young people both one- week work placements, and also extended work placements. Over the weekends we have a number of teenagers volunteering their time, many of them are undertaking their Duke of Edinburgh awards. We also go out to schools and groups (e.g. scouts, guides etc) to give talks on animal welfare, and we have had a number of groups visiting the centre to learn of the work we do.
We rely heavily on financial donations, sponsorship, memberships, and legacies, as well as asking people to donate blankets, sheets, duvets and bedding. For more information please click here. |
